1 Thessalonians 2:4 (NIV): “On the contrary, we speak as those approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please people but God, who tests our hearts.”
Too often we try to please people. We want others to like us and accept us, so we will go out of our way to win their favor. Perhaps we just seek to avoid confrontation at all cost, so we compromise or conform in order to keep someone else satisfied. Christ wants to free us from slavery to man’s opinions. The only approval that truly benefits us comes from God. So, how do we get God’s approval? We accept Jesus Christ as our Savior. When we are in Christ, we are clothed in His righteousness, and God is perfectly pleased with Jesus. We don’t have to work hard to be really, really good. We don’t have to go faster, be smarter, look prettier, or weigh less, we just need to be in Christ. That, Beloved, is the truth, and it will set you free from the trap of people-pleasing (John 8:32)!
